If I were to go through your pictures on your phone right now, what would they be of? Would they be selfies upon selfies of yourself? Pictures of your dog? Or your children?
Well if you were to go through my phone right now you’d see a bunch of random pictures. Pictures of the weather for example, memes, my son, etc. Can you guess what you can’t find in my pictures? Selfies. I realized that I hardly ever take selfies. It got me thinking of why. Why don’t I take selfies? Why isn’t my instagram filled with the I’m-trying-so-hard-to-make-it-look-like-I’m-not-posing pictures? You know those pictures that you see while scrolling down your feed of a beautiful flawless girl sipping her coffee, or wandering in some beautiful exotic place? The answer? I’m not confident. ANDDD it takes guts for me to admit I’m not confident. It’s funny because a lot of people see me and probably think that I’m pretty (and if you do I appreciate you, thank you) but they don’t know that I lack confidence.
Confidence – a feeling of self-assurance arising from one’s appreciation of one’s own abilities or qualities. Example: “she’s brimming with confidence”
In fact recently, my best friend came back to visit and she obviously wanted to see me. I was so nervous! Its been 2 years I haven’t seen her! What would she think? Would she think ‘wow she got uglier’? Or what if she thought I gained a lot of weight? I thought of one million excuses to try to avoid her, but in the end she is my best friend. I care about her, and I really wanted to see her. I gained the confidence to see her again finally, and guess what? We had an awesome time! And you want to know what she said?
“You look the same, except your hair is longer!”
This picture is worth one million feelings. And you’d never know.
But this post isn’t about me. This post is about you. When you read the beginning of the first paragraph, what were your thoughts? Did you think “wow, yes mine is filled up with selfies”? If you did that is awesome. Really. Don’t let any one take your shine away. And if you are like me, with hardly any selfies, that’s okay.
So here’s to having more confidence, posting more selfies, and making shit happen!
